For email lists larger than 10,000 records, RampedUp offers bulk suppression.
Two ways to suppress by email address
RampedUp offers two different ways to use email addresses as a suppression field. The simplest is to IMPORT a CSV of fewer than 10,000 emails directly in the Contact List Building tab. If your list is over 10,000 records, a user with Admin credentials can upload the CSV in the Search Suppression List tab within Admin.
Uploading a bulk suppression list
On the Admin tab, select Search Suppression List and click the UPLOAD NEW FILE button in the upper left. Find your suppression list (in CSV format) on your machine to upload, name, and save it into the RampedUp platform. This creates a new matching field for email addresses specific to your account, and you'll get an email notifying you once the process is complete.
Please note: for a few days each month, bulk suppression is toggled off for net-new uploads. During that window we are updating the database, and any bulk suppression list uploaded then would be lost.
Using your uploaded suppression file
In Contact List Building, under the Suppression Criteria tile, RampedUp offers Professional Email Address and Personal Email Address. Check the “Use your uploaded suppression file” box and the files you successfully uploaded and named appear in a drop-down menu. Any user on the account — not just the admin — can view and select one or more of these files to suppress those email addresses from the results.
Professional and personal email addresses are kept in two different places because they are two separate fields in our database. There is only one place to upload the lists, but a list can be applied to one field or both. What's the difference? A personal email address is not associated with the contact's employer — like gmail.com or outlook.com — whereas a professional email address is associated with the contact's employer.
Exclude My Leads
Users can also select Exclude My Leads as a field to use for suppression. My Leads are contact records that have been associated with a user, where a credit was decremented to obtain them. My Leads is its own tab in the RampedUp platform and offers a consolidated view of these records to review or download.
Once a user accumulates 10,000 leads and wants to use that list for suppression, export those contacts from My Leads into bulk suppression. On the My Leads tab, click the EXPORT button in the upper right, then choose IMPORT TO BULK SUPPRESSION from the drop-down menu. The file will be named MY LEADS with the date of the import.
Common questions
- What types of email can be used for bulk suppression? Professional and personal email addresses.
- What size list should use bulk suppression? Over 10,000 email addresses is a good threshold.
- Can bulk suppression lists be shared with my team? Yes — everyone on the team can see and use the suppression lists.
- Why would someone use bulk suppression? For emails you already own, or people who have opted out of your marketing efforts.
- Can I use bulk suppression when RampedUp isn't allowing new lists to be imported? Yes — only the import feature is toggled off; existing suppression lists still apply.
Only email addresses can be used for bulk suppression, but RampedUp also offers Company Web Addresses as a suppression field — complete with IMPORT functionality for CSVs up to 10,000 — which may serve a similar purpose. Company Web Addresses are just one of nine fields in the Suppression Criteria tile in Contact List Building. For more detail on those fields and functionality, see Using Suppression in Contact List Building.
