What is a Company Ownership Status?

A user-defined field that reports the type of organization — public, private, nonprofit, government and more.

A Company Ownership status is a user-defined field, meaning the organization shares its status on social media and we report it. Specifically, it explains what type of organization it is, to help the public understand its objectives or structure. Below are the different types available in the field.

  • Public Company — a company owned by public shareholders, with shares traded on a stock exchange.
  • Educational Institution — an institution focused on education (schools, colleges, universities).
  • Self Employed — an individual who owns and runs their own business alone.
  • Government Agency — an organization owned and operated by federal, state or local government.
  • Non Profit — an organization that operates for a mission, not owner profit.
  • Self Owned — a business fully owned and controlled by one person (a sole proprietor).
  • Privately Held — a company owned by private individuals or a small group; not publicly traded.
  • Partnership — a business owned and run by two or more people who share profits and losses.
